Rescue Me ID: 17-08-06-00199Male Rat (male)

Small Mammal    Age: Young Adult

I rescued this boy with a group of other rats. He's the only boy and needs a friend or two. He is a year old, PEW, gorgeous boy. He's shy but takes treats nicely and lets you pet him for short periods. I think he would blossom with some buddies and an owner with patience. He loves toys and raisins. He is a pet not food. Please text or email. He needs a new home before Sept 8th or I'll have to take him to the shelter.

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-01-00560Rats-Adults and Babies (female)

Small Mammal    Age: Young Adult

Updated** I rescued a group of rats from a bad situation but my young son is terrified of them. After much handling, their true personalities are showing. One was pregnant, the others are not. They need new homes before Sept 8th or they will go to a shelter. Madison is a black Berkshire. She just had a litter of babies and will be available in 4wks to a new home. Her babies are also looking for a new home and will be ready Sept 8th. I can hold her for you if you're interested. Lauren is a PEW. Daphne is a black Berkshire. Daphne and Lauren are very bonded and I prefer they stay together, however Madison can go with them or to a different ... (Read More)home. Daphne is very friendly and loves to be pet and explore. She is still unsure about being held but does not bite, only runs back to her cage. Lauren is still very shy and when backed into a corner, she will bite but otherwise she is a sweetie too. I also have a 6wk old baby left from Lauren's litter. Her name is Lindsay, an odd eyed PEW, and she gets along wonderfully with Daphne and her mom and can stay with them or go to a home with another young rat. She is the sweetest baby I have ever met and plays so gentle and loves to cuddle. I'm asking $10ea but if you're taking more than one I can make a deal. I have cages and supplies if needed. Please text or email. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-01-00226Rats-Babies

Small Mammal    Age: Baby

Updated** I rescued a group of rats and one was pregnant. My son is terrified of them so they need to have homes lined up. She gave birth to 11 babies, unless she hid a few from me. There is both male and female babies. Mother is a bit protective currently and I am unable to handle babies yet. They will be ready for homes Sept 8th. If homes aren't found, they will be taken to a shelter. Mom is a black Berkshire: mostly black with white belly, standard ears. Dad is PEW: white with ruby eyes, standard ears also. I'm expecting a variety of color patterns of mostly black and/or white. I'm rehoming them in pairs or more. Please text or email me ... (Read More)if you'd like to be on the waiting list. $5/baby. These babies are PETS ONLY not food. Boys will be separated from mom and sisters (so there's no accidental pregnancies) at 4wks and will be ready at that time. Girls can also leave at this time. I will update this ad as they find new homes. **Photo is of mom and dad, they are also looking for a new home** (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting Rodents & Small Mammal in North Carolina
Rodents & Small Mammals can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. Rodents are small mammals with four sharp teeth they use to eat, gnaw wood, and defend themselves. Several types of rodents are popular pets, such as chinchillas, hamsters, gerbils, and guinea pigs. Even rats are kept as pets! Rodents are often purchased as gifts for children. Sadly, however, many owners of rodent pets do not know how to care for them properly, and young children are often unprepared for the responsibility of having a pet. Families may not approach the purchase of a rodent with the same level of commitment they would have to a pet dog or cat. Mistakes can be made regarding the genders of a pair of rodents, resulting in a litter of unexpected babies. Some owners of rodents simply turn their pets loose when they get tired of them, which usually leads to the death of the animals, since they are not adapted to life in the wild. Free to good home ads can result in a rodent being used for snake food. There are some rodent rescue operations out there that can receive discarded pets, but these places tend to become overloaded due to so many people getting rid of their rodents. Please approach all decisions to get a pet with a long-term commitment, and pursue adoption rather than buying a rodent from a pet store.
