Rescue Me ID: 17-08-11-00327Guinea Pig - Ed and Al (male)

Small Mammal    Age: Young Adult

Al (tricolor) and Ed (chocolate) are the best of friends! They are 9 month old male guinea pigs! They love each other very much and will need to find a home that they can go to together. They're not so sure about other guinea pigs, but they sure do get along great as a pair! We are working with Al and Ed to become more handleable. Once they are in your arms, they've been doing well! They'll even keep a conversation going with you! The boys love to hang out in their little hut inside their kennel. Do you have two extra spots and lots of love to give these cutie pies?

Animal ID: gps born 7/1guinea pigs (male)

Small Mammal    Age: Baby

Please note: the only guinea pig currently available for adoption is the black and white roan texel male. The two girls have found homes! We have three baby guinea pigs that are looking for their new homes! These current guinea pigs are one male and two females. They were born on 7/1, which makes them 5 weeks old! Perfect time to take them home and make them part of your family! They're still super small and can pretty much fit in the palm of your hand! The male is a black and white roan Teddy guinea pig. One female is a tricolor (black, white, and red) American, and the other female is a dark brown and cream female%BD'%BD| ... (Read More)she's some sort of Abyssinian x longhair mix. Aren't they adorable? All of these guinea pigs have lived with other guinea pigs in the past, and have done great with their buddies, so maybe they'd be a great buddy for you lonely guinea pig! These guinea pigs have been handled (and well fed) since birth, by their original owner, before they came to us. They love their veggies and go to town every time they get some new greens to munch on. They absolutely devour their hay and think it's the best thing ever. Any of these guinea pigs would make a great 'first guinea pig' for someone who's never had guinea pigs before, as long as they're planning to devote time to working with them to continue to ensure that they will enjoy being handled as they get older. As it is right now, they're your typical guinea pig - they will move away from you when you reach in the cage, but are super sweet and do well with handling and petting, when you actually are holding them in your hands. Each guinea pig will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Oxbow Cavy Cuisine pellets), and a printed out version of our care packet. The guinea pig will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of supplies, from cages to hidey houses / igloos to the pelleted food, hay, toys, and everything in between. Regardless of past guinea pig experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our guinea pig care packet and fill out our guinea pig adoption form. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No guinea pig will go to a new home without an adoption form being filled out - no exceptions. These guinea pigs are located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). Sorry, we do not ship guinea pigs. The adoption fee for the Texel male guinea pig is $45. Either of the females are $35 to adopt, or adopt both sisters together for $60! For more info and pictures, visit our website - http://www.nwichinchillas.com/availablechinchillas.htm If you are interested in one (or multiple) of these guinea pigs, or have any questions, please let us know. We also do have chinchillas and other small animals up for adoption as well. You can email us at amgajda@sbcglobal.net or call 219-789-0026 for more information or if you have any questions. If you call and there is no answer, please leave a message and we will get back to you. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting Rodents & Small Mammal in Indiana
Rodents & Small Mammals can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. Rodents are small mammals with four sharp teeth they use to eat, gnaw wood, and defend themselves. Several types of rodents are popular pets, such as chinchillas, hamsters, gerbils, and guinea pigs. Even rats are kept as pets! Rodents are often purchased as gifts for children. Sadly, however, many owners of rodent pets do not know how to care for them properly, and young children are often unprepared for the responsibility of having a pet. Families may not approach the purchase of a rodent with the same level of commitment they would have to a pet dog or cat. Mistakes can be made regarding the genders of a pair of rodents, resulting in a litter of unexpected babies. Some owners of rodents simply turn their pets loose when they get tired of them, which usually leads to the death of the animals, since they are not adapted to life in the wild. Free to good home ads can result in a rodent being used for snake food. There are some rodent rescue operations out there that can receive discarded pets, but these places tend to become overloaded due to so many people getting rid of their rodents. Please approach all decisions to get a pet with a long-term commitment, and pursue adoption rather than buying a rodent from a pet store.
