Animal ID: Peter QuillHedgehog (male)

Small Mammal    Age: Adult

Hello! My name is Peter Quill, but you can just call me Starlord! I am not sure how I ended up in a parrot rescue, but I sure am glad that I did, because I am having fun here! I am almost one year old and I love to investigate the house by running around in my rolly ball. I don't mind other animals being around, just remember that I am small and you need to keep me safe. Of course I am more active at night as I am a nocturnal species, so during the day, I am pretty quiet and I mostly sleep. Even when I am active in the evenings, I am not loud and at most will let out a grunt if you do something that makes me unhappy or uncomfortable. ... (Read More)Usually though, once I get used to your smell, I am pretty comfortable around you and being handled by you. Just watch out for my quills, they can be a little prickly! I don't eat a whole lot, but I do need kibble, some fruits, and some protein sources - don't worry, my foster Mom can show you how to take care of me. Mostly though, I just need daily handling, exercise in my ball, a healthy variety of food appropriate for my species, clean water, and a clean cage and rolly ball. I do hope that you consider adopting me, but in the meantime, if you would like to send me a gift, you can see my wish list at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/19KP6SRGO1YYP/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o Thank you in advance for any gifts! Small Mammal    Age: Young Adult

I have cared for two male chinchillas for almost five years now......I am 59 an my husband is 65 - we also have 4 cats ann 2 dogs and the work entailed to care for the chinchillas is becoming too much.....our chinchillas are endangered species so we have been told and have a 20 + liefe span......they are not the loving cuddling kind...they are the messy have to be taken care of kind and we were told by a vet that they appeared to him to be the type that originated in Tibet and are endangered as their fur is the softest...........I did not know where were different types when I adopted them..........my grand daughter had one that sat on her ... (Read More)shoulder and wiggled his whiskers a mile a minute and was very clean........they do NOT smell but will constantly spit poop from the cage........one urine guard did not work.........my husband build an aluminum urine guard aroud the whole cage and they are now chewing threw it.......about every two months we have to buy a new plastic house as they have eaten a whole threw the back.......forget wooden house.....they ate that in 5 days..........they will let you pet them but may very will try to take a nipple out of you or your clothing..........they will not play in 'the ball'......we put one in it and it just sat there..............they are adorable to look at and watch........but these are not chinchillas that you can play with.......they are chinchillas that need to be taken care of........I am 59 and my husband is 65 - I am more worried about their 20 + life span and what would happen to them if they outlived us.........they also cannot be kept at any temperature above 75 or they could die. I have named the pushy one Chin and the shy one Chilla............they are very cute but require lots of care...........the cleaning of the cage is a good two hour job.............. (Less)

My name is Salem but I don't know that and you are welcome to change it. I'm only 8 months old so I'm fully grown but still young and full of fun! My colors are agouti and white! Rescue Me ID: 15-06-16-00079ferret (male)

Small Mammal    Age: Young Adult

Bobby is about 2 years old and he is the cuddliest, most goofy pet we've ever owned. He stays absolutely still in your arms but jumps around like a dork the second you put him down. He loves to play and is good with cats and dogs, but should probably not be kept with another ferret. We can no longer keep him (or his cagemate Linda) due to allergies in the family. PIease Read Before Adopting Rodents & Small Mammal in Florida
Rodents & Small Mammals can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. Rodents are small mammals with four sharp teeth they use to eat, gnaw wood, and defend themselves. Several types of rodents are popular pets, such as chinchillas, hamsters, gerbils, and guinea pigs. Even rats are kept as pets! Rodents are often purchased as gifts for children. Sadly, however, many owners of rodent pets do not know how to care for them properly, and young children are often unprepared for the responsibility of having a pet. Families may not approach the purchase of a rodent with the same level of commitment they would have to a pet dog or cat. Mistakes can be made regarding the genders of a pair of rodents, resulting in a litter of unexpected babies. Some owners of rodents simply turn their pets loose when they get tired of them, which usually leads to the death of the animals, since they are not adapted to life in the wild. Free to good home ads can result in a rodent being used for snake food. There are some rodent rescue operations out there that can receive discarded pets, but these places tend to become overloaded due to so many people getting rid of their rodents. Please approach all decisions to get a pet with a long-term commitment, and pursue adoption rather than buying a rodent from a pet store.

Rodents have front teeth that never stop growing and have to be worn down constantly by gnawing. Rodents are one of only a few types of placental mammals native to Australia. Weasels are not rodents.
